Work has started on Special Education Needs provision for Kirklees
QED, the PFI consortium that includes NewSchools and Wates Construction, has been awarded the contract for the provision of three special schools in the Kirklees Metropolitan area. The contract has a capital value of just over £25m and is over a 27 year period.
The project will create three special schools, work started in the summer 2005 and completion phased between spring 2006, and winter 2006/2007.
The programme will see a new school at Newsome to be called Castle Hill School - to replace Highfields at Edgerton and Turnshaws at Kirkburton and a new school for Fairfield at Heckmondwike. These two developments are scheduled to be operational from autumn 2006 and significant works to re-shape and extend Ravenshall School at Dewsbury, to effectively provide a new school, will be phased between spring 2006 and winter 2006/2007.
